| Route Description | Starting at Altarichard Car Park and Picnic Site, turn left and follow the Altarichard Road until you reach a waymarker on the right hand side of the road. The Breen Forest Trail is marked by the red arrows. Follow the waymarks uphill over marshy upland until reaching a stile. Cross this and make the final steep ascent to the summit of Croaghan with spectacular views. Follow the waymarks down the other side of the hill crossing several ditches to the edge of Breen Forest. Continue into the forest along a grassy track until you reach a formal forest path. Follow the waymaker to meet with the main Breen Forest path and continue right following along the same section of the Moyle Way for a short distance. Where the Moyle Way continues to the left, follow the path straight ahead until you come to the end of the Forest path. Follow the waymarker to the right along a rough track which is marshy underfoot, this brings you out onto a stretch of open hill. Make a left at the end of the firebreak following the waymarks across a steep ditch and into Altarichard Forest. Follow the waymarked forest paths until you exit the forest at the side of a gate and onto the Altarichard Road. Turn right and make your way back to Altarichard Car Park and picnic site, which is a short distance along on the left hand side of the road. |

Very easy to navigate as it is waymarked all along the route. Boggy on the hill side but what do you expect on the Antrim Hills! Make sure you are wearing waterproof boots and maybe gaiters.Views are excellent at certain points.Nice short little hike.
Easy to follow trail which is well marked. Some outstanding views along the way. Quite boggy / mucky in parts so well worth bringing good boots. We had no problems bringing our dogs with us on this walk.
Had a wonderful walk here yesterday but some difficulty on a forest road north of Croaghan as it was blocked by a large tree.
