Castlerock Community Association WalkFestSaturday 15th and Sunday 16th September
Walks for all the family, from kids to grandparents enjoy Castlerock’s sea air and beautiful location This year we are offering a much wider range of walks. These include:
Family Walk: bring the young children even in buggies, the short walk will be an environmental adventure exploring local wildlife. A face-painter will be available to add to the colour. Tea, squash and buns are a further incentive to finish.
Gentle Journey: for those a little older who may have done little or no walking but would like to try a ‘gentle’ walk of no more than an hour in duration. Enjoy meeting others have a cup of tea and scone at the end and enjoy the chat and excitement.
Walk Talks: in and around the village. On Saturday a local historian will lead the walk and provide a range of historical information en route. The Sunday walk is along the beach and the Bann to the bird sanctuary, this will be led by an environmentalist. Again finishing with tea, scones and chat, an opportunity to catch up on information you may have missed.
Nordic Walking: learn this healthy walking with long poles. It puts less pressure on the joints and as legs and arms are swinging is very good for the health. Poles and a trainer are available, training in the morning and then a short walk to use what you have learnt in the afternoon. Again relax later with tea, buns and chat.
Orienteering: learn and try this exciting skill, based on map reading and route planning. Trainers and maps will be available and then put what you have learned into practice. Tea, buns at the end will help you recover.
Registration and the start of all walks is from the Peter Thompson Hall where refreshments will be available for all at the end of the walks. Transport will be provided to the start point of walks which are located away from the village.
