It is hoped to impart a basic level of understanding of:
Map reading
Route planning
Equipment use
Clothing requirements
Access and the environment
This course is for those new to hill walking who want a gentle introduction to the basic skills and equipment to make it safe, comfortable and enjoyable.
Suggested equipment includes; waterproof jacket and trousers, boots, fleece jacket, hat and gloves, flask, water bottle, Mourne map (1:25,000) and spare clothes (it’s best to bring plenty of lighter layers and avoid cotton if possible as it offers little heat and takes ages to dry out if wet or sweaty).
