New Path Development Work at Whiterock, Castlerock and East Strand Beaches

Coleraine Borough Council has recently carried out work on the following three beaches on the North Coast:

Whiterocks EI Scheme

As part of an Environmental Improvement Scheme at Whiterocks Beach, a new off-road section of the Ulster Way/Causeway Coast Way is being created along the cliff top above the famous white chalk cliffs. Interpretation panels have also been installed as part of this project. Work on the scheme, including the installation of an oak footbridge, is nearing completion.

Castlerock Promenade EI Scheme

As part of a recently completed promenade and beach frontage Environmental Improvement Scheme in Castlerock, 3 new lengths of boardwalk totalling approx. 500m have been constructed through the sand dunes, providing different access routes from the promenade to the beach. Interpretation panels have also been installed as part of this project.

East Strand Dunes – Access & Biodiversity Project

Council, in conjunction with Causeway Coast & Glens Heritage Trust, has recently completed an access and sand dunes stabilisation project at East Strand sand dunes, Portrush. The project involved stabilising the dunes through minimising erosion caused by footfall, and managing pedestrian access by means of boardwalk, steps and chestnut pale fencing.
