Blooming Marvellous Rose Week Returns 18th-24th July

Sir Thomas and Lady Dixon Park is ready to blossom for the return of the much anticipated Rose Week taking place from Monday, 18 to Sunday 24 July.

Newly crowned Miss Northern Ireland, Emma Carswell joined Councillor Matt Garrett, Chairman of the council’s People and Communities Committee to launch the event in the midst of the many roses that will be on display.

Looking ahead to the event which attracts thousands of visitors every year, Councillor Garrett said: “To have one of the world’s leading Rose gardens based in Belfast is absolutely fantastic and it’s great that we get to celebrate this annually with our ever popular Rose Week in Sir Thomas and Lady Dixon Park.

“This family friendly event has something for everyone to enjoy and access to the event couldn’t be easier as there is a free shuttle bus running from Belfast City Hall to the event every 20 minutes.”

He added: “I would encourage as many people as possible to avail of this and come down to soak up the colour and ‘feel good’ atmosphere that our annual Rose Week offers.”

Admission to the event is free and the weeklong festivities will run from 1pm-5pm daily. As well as more than a million blooms on show visitors can enjoy music, dance, interactive street theatre, arts and crafts, face painting, balloon modelling and inflatable fun.

One of the highlights of Rose Week is the City of Belfast International Rose Trials scheduled for Thursday, 21 July. Judges from across the world will arrive in Belfast to cast their eyes over the many blossoms on display, with the winners to be announced that afternoon at a civic luncheon in City Hall.

Also, keep on the lookout for the council’s own “Scoop Dog” who is encouraging visitors to share their #selfiewithscoop over the summer, via Facebook, Twitter and Instagram, for a chance to win some excellent prizes for their pets.
