Beat the Street is coming to NI

Fancy taking part in a new FREE real-life walking and cycling game to get active and improve your health at the same time?

Beat the Street is a new, exciting community engagement initiative coming to Northern Ireland this September to get 60,000 people moving!  Funded by the National Charity Partnership of Diabetes UK, British Heart Foundation and Tesco and delivered with full support of local councils, Beat the Street is a real-life walking and cycling challenge which increases physical activity levels by getting the whole community moving. Earn points, win prizes, keep active and have fun.

Game Details

Beat the Street will take place from 14 September until 2 November when communities will be turned into a unique, fun, live interactive game which people play by walking, cycling and running around the area. To take part they tap special cards onto sensors called Beat Boxes which will be placed on lampposts and other street furniture located around the community.

Tapping two boxes within an hour records a journey. Alongside ‘lucky taps’, spot prizes and competitions there will be two leaderboards - total points and highest average points – with the top team on each leaderboard winning £1,000 worth of Decathlon vouchers.

Beat the Street cards and maps available soon from local libraries, leisure facilities and other community hubs. Maps also available online where teams and individuals can register to win prizes, see their points rise and distance travelled.

Organisations - Want to take Part?

Beat the Street is for everyone – get to know your area, your community and get active! Suitable for all ages and fitness levels. Create a team for your organisation (25 players or more) to win big prizes. You can even use Beat the Street as a fundraising tool.

Individuals/Families - What to take Part

Create your own team or join an existing one; parents, grandparents, teachers and pupils can all play. Children’s fob and parent’s cards will be available from participating schools in September.
Exercise doesn’t have to be difficult, let’s make it fun with Beat the Street
