Irish Blessings Tours is pleased to join up with Leitrim Landscapes Guide Tina Pommer for the third annual Geopark mushroom identification walk this September.  In addition to our traditional Cavan Burren Mushroom Walk on 4th September, 2016 will see us add a Fermanagh day out at Castle Archdale seeking fungi in the woodland on 11th September. Both Cavan Burren Forest and Castle Archdale are sites within the Marble Arch Caves Global Geopark.

Over the past three years many differing mushroom species have been identified in the Cavan Burren Forest Park on our September walks.  In addition to edible mushrooms we have found mushrooms our ancestors would have used as kindling and Victorians used as artist's canvas. While many walkers are interested in learning more about edible fungi, the walks are also wonderful opportunities for photographic journaling the natural history of this unique geopark landscape.

Both the Cavan Burren Forest Park and Castle Archdale are sites within the cross-border, international Marble Arch Caves Global Geopark.  This UNESCO designation recognises the unique natural and built heritage of the west  Cavan and south  Fermanagh border country. Geopark sites of interest are spread as far west as Castle Archdale and Castle Oughter to the east, with many visitor attractions between the two points.

The Cavan Burren Walk will take place on Sunday, 4th September 2016. Meet in the new visitor centre 2pm and lasts approximately 2.5 hours. Wear sturdy boots and weatherproof gear. There is a charge of £16/20E20.

The Castle Archdale Walk will take place on Sunday, 11th September, also 2pm. In addition to a walk in the park we will also meet in the Education Room for a workshop demonstration on how to make mushroom spore prints as a reliable method of identifying mushroom species. The charge is £16/E20.

Places are limited so booking is strongly advised. Ring Bee on 00353  71 964 3936 to ensure you have a place on one of these highly popular walks.Your guides for the day out are Tina Pommer of Leitrim Landscape Walks and local Marble Arch Caves Geopark Guide Bee Smith.
