WalkNI.com Your definitive guide to walking in Northern Ireland

WalkNI Blog - Have your say!

Since January 2010, the WalkNI Blog has been growing from strength to strength but we are always on the look out for more guest bloggers to share their stories and inspirations from walking in Northern Ireland.

Please email info@walkni.com if you think you have a short article that would suit our blog! We'd love to hear from you!

Below are just some of the comments left by WalkNI blog users as response to a previous article written by Paul O'Connor on his struggle to tame the Mourne Wall.

An excellent account. Along with my brother, Norman, we did the walk on 7th June 1981. This was the Silver Jubilee of the YHANI Mourne Wall Walk and, I am glad to say, that at 79 I'm still walking.

I was part of the YHA organising committee for the Mourne Wall Walk in the 1980s. I have done the complete walk on two occasions, the second with my future wife in 1960. We fell out several times on the way round, but we still got married a year later. We now have 8 grandchildren and some of them are keen walkers. I still walk in the Mournes at least once a month at age 81.

I decided to climb Slieve Donard for the first time on my 60th birthday (23/4/2011) accompanied by three of my children, my grandson and three other family members. My local pub landlord has now challenged me to do the Mourne Wall on my 61st!! Challenge laid down and accepted....this article has been really helpful .....training starts tomorrow...
