Avalanches in the Mournes

Several Avalanches have been observed in the Mournes recently.  The biggest one being on the West face of Slieve Bearnagh - see picture. There is a considerable risk of avalanches on many slopes, particularly above 400 metres (especially westerly facing slopes).

There were avalanches on the sides of Slieve Commedagh and Slieve Bernagh overnight, some of which were large and can be seen from Tollymore National Outdoor Centre.  Anyone on planning on heading into the hills should be vigilant, plan appropriately and be prepared for full winter conditions in the hills.
