CONSULTATION EVENT - Sperrins Outdoor Recreation Action Plan


On behalf of Sport NI and Sperrins Outdoor Recreation Forum (SORF), Outdoor Recreation NI are developing an Outdoor Recreation Action Plan (ORAP) for the Sperrins region.  The aim of this plan is to (a) to identify current provision and management of all outdoor recreation activities and (b) identify opportunities for development over the next 5-10 years. 


We want to know

(a) where you currently use

(b) for what activities

(c) what activities/facilities you would like to see developed in the future.

By attending one of these consultations your views will directly contribute to the final action plan of projects which will be developed over the next 5-10 years!


We are holding 4 open consultation workshops for the local community on:

Tuesday 13th August @ An Creagán Visitor Centre, Creggan

 Time: 7-8pm


Wednesday 14th August @ The Diamond Centre, Claudy

Time: 7-8pm


Tuesday 20th August @ Kilcronaghan Activity Centre, Tobermore: 

 Time: 7-8pm


Thursday 29th August @ Newtownstewart Centre 2000, Newtownstewart

Time: 7-8pm

For your information:

-          The study covers the Sperrins AONB and 4 scenic driving routes, as well as

  1. Forests: Gortin, Ligfordrum, Davagh, Goles, Glenshane, Banagher, Garvagh and Gortnamoyagh
  2. Rivers: Roe, Moyola, Ballinderry, Glenelly, Owenkillew, Mourne, Strule
  3. Towns: Cookstown, Draperstown, Moneyneany, Garvagh, Dungiven, Claudy, Strabane, Sion Mills, Newtownstewart, Castlederg, Drumquinn, Omagh and Carrickmore.

-          Outdoor Recreation activities covered: walking, cycling, horse riding, canoeing, fishing and mountain biking, as well as adventure activities such as archery, climbing, fell running, jet skiing, orienteering, sailing and waterskiing etc. Both formal and informal activity is included.

-          Activities not included: Golf, Hunting, Motorised sports.
