Are your usual walking and hiking trails getting a bit stale? Do you long for a new bit of scenery to feast your eyes upon before the greyness of winter takes over? Do you struggle to find accommodation for weekend trips that provides enough room for all of your biking, hiking, or fishing equipment? The self-catering cottages at Drumlin Lane in Hillsborough are happy to help you solve your outdoorsy woes.

With the surge in tourism in Northern Ireland this year and a growing need to remain ‘eco-friendly,’ the owner of Drumlin Lane, Glenn Harvey, has created a cosy place for tourists and outdoor enthusiasts alike to enjoy local scenery with the outdoors in mind.

These houses have no central heating—typically an essential for a weekend stay in a cottage on top of a hill. But Glenn’s mission to make living without central heating not only liveable but desirable has been accomplished with these cosy air-tight homes. Drumlin Lane has been built for comfort and uses solar panels, air source heat pump, heat recovery system, rainwater harvesting, and triple-glazing to ensure that your stay is a comfortable one.

Drumlin Lane is an outdoors lover’s dream, with gorgeous views throughout out Slieve Croob and the Hillsborough countryside. You can even see Belfast off in the distance—exactly where you want it to be on such a quiet and serene holiday. With close proximity to some of the best biking and walking trails in Northern Ireland located nearby in Lisburn and Hillsborough, you will have plenty of fresh terrain—both on and off-road—to explore. The games room also features loads of space to park your bike indoors after a long day of cycling.

There is plenty to do at Drumlin Lane including games, table tennis, a built-in outdoor trampoline, and even a do-it-yourself vegetable patch to try out your green thumb. Glenn encourages guests to pick whatever’s in season in the garden and create delicious locally-grown meals in the kitted-out kitchens. Kids will love staying in the loft bedroom which comes with bunk beds, a kids’ ensuite bathroom, and wall-mounted flat screen TV, and stunning views. Not to mention the massively popular indoor waterslide at the Lagan Valley Leisureplex is within short distance from Drumlin Lane.

Drumlin Lane’s official opening took place on the 28th of September with local councillors, tourism representatives, and business owners attending and praising the family business venture, and the accommodation has already gained 4 stars from the Northern Ireland Tourism Board. The innovation used in designing the homes is evident after only a short stay in the cottages, which feels like a holiday into the future as well as a great opportunity to get back to your roots.
