Although this 9-mile section is entirely on road or footpath, it offers some fantastic views from the summit of the Moneyneany-Dungiven road. The challenge lies in the 260m of ascent that must be made to reach the top. Thereafter you can savour the views as you walk downhill into the Roe Valley and the historic town of Dungiven.

Moneyneany is situated on the B40 between Draperstown and Feeny. On street car parking is available in the village or there is a small car park further along the route in Moydamlaght Forest.
Moneyneany is poorly served by public transport. It would be advisable to take Ulsterbus services directly to Dungiven or Draperstown 3 miles away to the east.
For timetable information please consult Translink website http://www.translink.co.uk/present/IndexOpSvc.asp#ULB
Please note there is currently no waymarking in place along this section of the route. It is hoped that the signage will be completed as soon as possible.
From Moneyneany village, walk northwest along the B40 for fifteen or twenty minutes in the direction of Feeny. Keep right at a junction and follow signs for Dungiven onto the Moydamlaght Road. Climb steadily along this road for the next hour and a half passing rocky outcrops on Mullaghmore to reach the road's highpoint of 358m between Brown Hill and White Mountain. The road name changes here to Birren Road. There are now superb views to the north across Benbradagh, Binevenagh, Lough Foyle and the Inishowen Peninsula.
The descent towards Dungiven begins gently but becomes steeper as you near the bottom. Cross the Roe River fifty minutes after leaving the summit and on the other side climb along the road for a few minutes to a junction. Turn left and continue along the Birren Road to a junction with the A6 Belfast-Derry road. Cross this busy road with care and turn left onto a footpath on the far side. Walk along this path for the next thirty minutes to the section finish in Dungiven.
Refreshments are available at the start and finish of the route in Moneyneany and Gortin. This short section has no refreshment stops along the way.
The next section is Quality Section - Dungiven - Castlerock incorporating the North Sperrins Way. Therefore it could not be easier to continue your Ulster Way experience.
