This path circumnavigates Castlewellan Lake providing good views of Slievenaslaat and Castlewellan Castle.
The Family Cycling route follows this path, which is on well maintained wide forest paths and mostly flat.

From the car park, cross the driveway, (beware of traffic). Proceed along the trail to the lake. The path continues around the lake and is clearly marked with a blue arrow.
Trail features -
No steps or gullies
Slight gradient (1:12 max)
Edges generally defined
No overhanging branches
Firm surface with some loose material
Rest areas generally every 300m
Way-finding markers every 300m
Distance 'To Go' markers every 300m
The Family Cycling Trail is marked by green disks with a white bicycle in the middle.
This walk is situated in a working forest environment and may be subject to diversion and closure from time to time.

From Castlewellan the forest is signposted from Main Street.
