Start out at Mayobridge and follow the route to Warrenpoint through Tamary, Ballydulany, Edentrumly, Milltown, Tamnaharry, Burren and Clonallon as shown on the map.
Burren Heritage Centre
Start out in Mayobridge village centre. Begin to leave the village towards Hilltown. At the roundabout carry straight on to the Old Road for approximately 500m, then turn left onto the Carmany Road.
Continue on the Carmany Road until you reach the junction at the end of the road. Turn right at the junction on the Drumlough Road. Continue for approximately 650m before turning right onto the Ballydoo Road. Continue on for approximately 300m then turn left onto what is an old path which is approx 1km in length and leads to the Tamary Road.
At the end of the path turn left onto the Tamary Road. Continue on the Tamary Road until you reach a set of crossroads, crossing the Leode Road. Carry straight on. Take the next right onto the Ballydoo Road and carry on until you reach the Edentrumley Road.
At the crossroads, carry straight on, staying on the Edentrumley Road. The next junction is a staggered crossroad – take the road straight across (you will need to walk along the main road for a few metres to get to this road). Once on this road you will meet a sharp bend. Turn left onto the Tamnaharry Road. At the next crossroads continue straight on before taking a sharp right onto the Chapel Hill Road. After approx 150m take a sharp left onto Milltown Hill.
Continue on for approximately 300m – you will see a road to the right, do not take this. Another 45m, take a sharp left on the Derryleckagh Road. Continue on for just over 1200m, then take a sharp left onto the Bridge Road. After walking for approximately 200m on the Bridge Road you should turn on the Carrick Road. The Carrick Road offers great views over the surrounding area and Warrenpoint, out towards Carlingford Lough.
When you come to the crossroads turn onto the Contifleece Road. Continue on the Contifleece Road onto the Ballydesland Road. You should walk to the very end of the Ballydesland Road before turning left onto the Donaghguy Road. At the end of this road you will reach a crossroads – Clonallon Church will be on your left – turn right here onto Dallan Road. After approximately 100m, turn left onto the Clonallon Road.
Continue on this road until you reach a small crossroads where you should continue straight on. Follow the road until you meet the next set of crossroads where you should see a health surgery straight in front. Continue straight on at the crossroads onto Great George’s Street.
Continue to the end of the street and turn right at the junction onto Duke Street which leads into the centre of Warrenpoint.
As this walk is a road walk there is access at any point on the road.
Walkers are advised to bring their own refreshments although the small village of Mayobridge has a small supermarket and bar and there is also a small corner-shop in Burren.
