Mourne Heritage Trust have had an amazing response from people concerned about the levels of litter experienced this year as we emerged from Lockdown. As a direct result of this, they are delighted to launch their new litter stations which are currently in place at Carrick Cottage Cafe and Meelmore Lodge Accommodation and Amenity Site two key access points to the Mournes.
The stations include litter pickers and bags for casual volunteers to use when they are heading out on a walk. The stations also include sanitiser, to ensure equipment can be cleaned before/after every use.
So if you’re heading for a walk in the mountains (government guidelines permitting) and you would like to “do your bit”, why not stop off and pick up a picker and bag? We appreciate that everyone should dispose of their own rubbish responsibly, but sadly that doesn’t happen. Maybe seeing others actively picking litter will discourage this irresponsible behaviour?!
