Hundreds of walkers started 2020 with a walk to the summit of Bessy Bell Mountain in the Sperrins, Co. Tyrone.
The weather was in the walkers’ favour as they set out from Mellon Country Inn to the summit of Bessy Bell Mountain. This walk along the Ulster Way offers magnificent views over Baronscourt, the Gortin Glens and beyond. Walkers enjoyed refreshments and music in the McAnulla farm shed on their return.
The walk raised vital awareness of organ donation in Northern Ireland. Heart transplant recipient, Stephen Kee lead walkers on the day and acknowledged the contribution his donor had made in allowing him to do so.
This walk was organised by Friends of the Glens and takes place annually.
Friends of the Glens acknowledge that Fermanagh and Omagh District Council are working to upgrade the Bessy Bell Trail (within the Ulster Way, the Ireland Way and the Appalachan Trail).
