This walk can be accessed from Randalstown’s beautiful and historic Viaduct Walkway and follows the scenic River Maine pathway. Continue following the signs and turn left at the playing fields onto the Ahoghill Road which connects with the Portglenone Road finally crossing at Main Street and finishing at the Viaduct entrance on New Street. The total route is 2.8 km and each km is clearly marked throughout the route. This route can be walked in either direction, returning you to the point you started from.

    Route Description

    This route has been established in joint partnership with Antrim Borough Council and Randalstown ARCHES Community Association in order to promote a holistic physical activity contributing to a positive and healthy mind. Regular walking can improve symptoms of depression, anxiety and panic attacks; and has a positive effect on an individual’s whole body, emotional well-being, self-esteem and energy levels.

    Getting to the start

    From Belfast – follow M2 North which leads onto M22. Take A6 exit marked ‘Randalstown’ onto Ballygrooby Roundabout. At roundabout take A6 exit onto Castle Road. Follow road into Randalstown. Enter Randalstown by going over bridge onto Bridge Street which leads immediately onto Main Street. At Main Street access John Street Car park by turning left (see parking sign by narrow road entrance). Park car and walk onto New Street from car park exit, turn left and walk 100 mtrs until park entrance onto Viaduct is visable on left hand side of road. Mapboard is visable at this point.

    Facilities

    The route circles Randalstown Main Street where facilities are available typical to a small town (pubs, cafes, spar etc). John Street car park is surrounded by cafes with toillet facilities.
